Again I will say it. We have been instructed to guard our writings and so I think the safest thing is to ask you all not make any comments. Just read my reflections and thoughts to get a taste of Afghanistan. I know you understand and thanks so much!
Arrived yesterday safely in Kabul. Again one of my first observations was the demographics of my flight. I'd say there was 80% white men in civilian cloths and the rest, women and nationals? From this I gathered a lot work is happening over here and not many women are part of it. Makes me wonder why?
Leaving Dubai, we began to start to work on mastering our head covers. The women in Dubai and Afghanistan make it look so simple and elegant. I still don't have it, but there is hope for me.
At the airport we had a bit of confusion and one of the team members was ahead of the rest of the group and was quickly escorted out by a national before the rest of us. Oh the images that flashed through my mind! Thankfully it was just a eager portage man who wanted to be sure he could get a tip for helping with her luggage.
Our accommodations are nice and our first meal was just right; meat ball, rice, spinach, fruit and veggies. We spent most of the evening receiving a little orientation and sorting medications in preparation for our clinic the next day. Security, security, security is of the utmost importance.
